Day 2 of Play

May 24, 2004, 12:o0 pm PST, Las Vegas

Starting Day 2 with a bang! They published the results from the first day's play, and out of 2576 people, 1015 are left, and MZ is 80th in chip count with $48,125...Amazing standing for end of first day. His table today is in what they call the main tournament room. It's where the television table is (he's not at it) and where the main ESPN film cameras are. His back is to the bleachers, so not only is photography tough, but watching is nearly impossible.

But, viewing of other people was great today....

While mere spectators like myself are limited to photograph those in our direct line of view (and out of the security guards' lines of view!), the media can do what ever they want. One really really nice photographer took my camera and got these great shots of our own celebrity!

It was Round 7 when the day started. By the start of Round 8, the $48,125 was chiseled down to $40,000 ish. At that point, there were only 850 of the original 2576 remaining. Round 8 saw a bad hand hit, and the stack was cut in half! Fear not... there is still time.

During Round 9, there was a big hep-to-do at MZ's table. He was not involved - two other guys at the table were. The one guy was complaining that the other was unfairly given chips from a split pot! The camera crews rushed over, and the tournament director, Matt Savage was called in to make a ruling...

Round 9 ended with only 500 people left, Mike one of them, but with an uncomfortable $25,300! After a 70 minute dinner break, Round 10 began...and ended...and MZ was still in! At the start of Round 11, the stack was $19,400. During the round, it peaked at $43,000, but ended at $36,600. Still in! It was now the start of Round 12....11:40pm...314 players left....ummm...the scene really doesn't look much different then 12 hours ago...

Unbelievable... a new personal best...MZ held on through Round 12, ending with $12,800 and 279 players remaining. The top 225 players make money....let's see what tomorrow brings!
